We all live such fast paced lives these days where everything and everyone seems to be rushing around. Maybe you are reading this looking to live a much slower life yourself. I totally get that me too !!
I don’t know about you but I have reached a point in my life where I’ve realised I want to savour the small things a little more. It’s so easy to always be looking to the next thing, come monday morning we are already longing for the weekend, counting down to summer, halloween, Christmas. In the first week of January the shops were already getting flip flops and bikinis in, easter eggs on the shelves of the supermarkets and valentines cards advertised at every avail. But if we are constantly flitting from one season to the next what happens to the days inbetween? I’ve come to realise I need “we need to” start taking note of the smaller everyday moments, savour the seasons and pause and take in the mondane days.
January can be a bit of depressing month after the excitement of christmas but this year I’m really trying to pause and take in the smaller things. The every moments, laughs from the kids, a cup of tea in bed on a Sunday morning, homework, gymnastics, karate, wraping up warm and walking the dog, photographing the ever changing colours of the outdoors, family Sunday lunches and catching up with friends.
Although these everyday moments can seem less important or my not seem like the most exciting or best days of our lifes, these are the days that we have the small victories, the precious moments, yes there maybe sad days, losses, general rubbish days but these days help us grow and flourish as a person, these are the days that help us reach the bigger goals in life.
So this month I am really trying to pause and savour the shorter days of January, yes they might not be the brighest of days with not much light at this time of year. It is the perfect time to light the candles, cosy up, drink all the tea, enjoy a new book and take note of the stillness that january brings.
Until next time
